Bill : We did the same thing as on our previous album. We have four producers we always work with. We are like a big team who go into the studio together, work out ideas and create wonderful things. For the first time we also cooperated with some new producers and have experimented with them to get new ideas and other impressions. That was really good thing.
Tom: I helped Georg to record some bass quitar pieces in the songs.

M. Tell us something about World behind wall, what it is about?

Bill: Actually it is the most personal song on the album. It is about our lives. It expresses how our life is right now , you know we live most of the time behind walls. It is quite personal song in any case.
M. You always make two versions of your videos, in German and in English. Is that stressful or is it cool to make another version?

Bill: You know it takes a lot of time but we have to blame ourselves because we cannot decide what our favourite version is. We always want to make both versions and can never make decision for one or the other track and due to that everything takes twice the time. I always have to sing every song twice. The video and things about it. You have to work a lot, but you know it is absolutely a good thing, because both versions are so different. Lass uns laufen and World behind my wall show that very clearly, the tittles of both songs are very different. There is no one on one translation and for the most parts aren’t alike.

M. Do you have habits that irritate each other, for example does one of you first have to put on the left shoe or just have to have a red towel in the morning?

Bill: Georg always have to take a dump before every gig. It doesn’t really irritate us, otherwise it brings good luck. Sometimes we even have to send Georg to take a dump so we have good luck on stage. The first thing we do is check the toilet, but Georg is also happy to go on a portable toilet.

Georg: They should make me the European toilet dominator. Yeah, something like that.

M. Is there any news you would love to read about yourselves? You have won many awards. But maybe is there someone you would really like to work with?

Bill: I would like to read “Tokio Hotel nominated nine times for Grammy’s”

Georg: I would like to read something like “New song with Steven Tyler”. That would be totally awesome.

M. Did you have a good resolutions for new year which you definitely broke?

Bill: Let me thing about when I stopped making those…. At the age of 13. It is like, for instance with vegetarianism. You can decide for it during the year and just stick to it and that’s also with other things. You cannot plan this just because it is the end of the year.

Georg.: If I feel like I want to do something I just do it one random day. When I want to do this just because of the new year, it doesn’t work at all. For me it has to be a spontaneous decision that I am going to stop drinking or something.

M. What would you wish for the new year for your fans and yourselves?

Bill: I want to wish a good health, that is I think the most important. And prosperity. And at least wish good health for my family and maybe a little more spare time. For our fans I wish a lot of fun at our gigs. When you are coming it will be a high light, we promise. And further good health to everyone and prosperity in what everyone .

Let’s mention the club first. Nosturi is a commendable venue with excellent acoustics and capacity of 900 people. Elevated side and large balcony enables more people to see something even if their height condemns them usually to get along  just with sound. I arrived to Helsinki early enough to catch both MSG and the opening act for this evening, a Finnish heavy metal band called KINGS OF MODESTY. However, sightseeing, friends’ meeting etc. took me longer than I expected, thus I entered Nosturi some five minutes before the headliner showed up on the stage. My mistake, I can imagine the Kings of Modesty’s set was definitely worth seeing. The band with just one regular studio album so far has already opened for MSG earlier this year. When I entered the crowded, although not absolutely full club, last preparations just took place. It was still possible to approach the stage quite well and find a suitable place to see the band properly, but with first tones of the first song, the club was becoming tighter and tighter. No long intro, no long ceremonies, the band, followed by Schenker starting to play opening riff for Ride On My Way, comes to the stage precisely on time. After first song from the latest MSG release “In The Midst of Beauty” (2008), the setlist includes mostly songs from “The Michael Schenker Group” (1980) debut album and “M.S.G. II” (1981) disc. No mention of McAuley Schenker Group in between. Gary Barden on vocals does a great job, exactly what fans of Schenker’s old releases expect from him. Unfortunately he is not a kind of a mesmerizing frontman who attracts the audience’s attention easily. Often his appeals to the audience to sing or scream louder just go astray. Moreover, the audience seems to be somehow paralysed this evening, which does not help it in any way.

Although the atmosphere in the audience could be better, almost full venue of that size is a success. Current line-up further includes Wayne Findlay on guitar and keyboards, Chris Glen on bass and Chris Slade on drums. But, of course, their role is very limited, Schenker usurps all the attention. And not unjustly. His solos are stunning and breath-taking, especially in Lost Horizon and Attack of the Mad Axman. The crowd is staring at his fingers running over the guitar neck in disbelief. The same comes with the eccentric sounds he makes with his instrument from time to time. Several times Schenker changes one flying-V for another one. After approximately seventy minutes, MSG leaves the stage and the subsequent applause is endless. Awesome performance. Encore consists of three non-Michael Schenker Group pieces. Originally acoustic Dance Lady Gipsy from Schenker’s and Barden’s side project “Gipsy Lady” starts moving even with those who were standing still until now. The absolute end belongs to UFO’s classics Rock Bottom and Doctor Doctor. Both 35 years old and how they work! A nice surprise came when Jari Tiura (vocals in MSG 2006) joined the band for Doctor Doctor and sang the song together with Gary Barden. Another huge and not stopping applause. The whole audience sings the famous words “Livin’ lovin’ I’m on the run, so far away from you” and I can feel the atmosphere of a great gig all the rest of the night on my way back home.
